RESEARCH TECHNICIAN linked to project Scan2DBP per l'ICRA

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed technician, expert in analyzing high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The candidate will work in the ambitious and ground-breaking “scan2DBP” project. “A scanning dissolved organic matter fingerprint tool to predict disinfection byproduct formation during water treatment”, in an internationally rich environment with in-house last generation analytical equipment. The principal investigator is Dr Maria José Farré. The project PDC2021-121045-I00 Scan2DBP is funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and the European Union NextGenerationEU/ PRTR.

The focus of Scan2DBP project is in drinking water monitoring to predict toxic compounds that can be formed during the chemical disinfection of water (DBPs). The opportunity to use this technology as an early warning tool will also be explored. Up to date, closing the mass balance of DBP formation has failed due to the impossibility to correctly predict DBP formation because of the variability of DBP precursors that could not yet be well determined, mainly due to analytical limitations. Scan2DBP aims to close this mass balance and allow the prediction of DBP formation based on the molecular fingerprint of the water obtained with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS).

KEY DUTIES

  • Interpret HRMS data and program scripts to quantify the results (all the experimental work already done).
  • As with all PhD students and postdoctoral fellows a small proportion of the time will be allocated to communal services such as joint laboratory maintenance etc.
