As a highly motivated and well-trained employee with a strong background in engineering, you will dedicate approximately 50% of your time to shift work, ensuring the safe operation of the accelerator. The remaining time will be spent supporting scientists in various activities. You will thrive and perform a meaningful role in this multidisciplinary, diverse, and international work environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
During shifts:
- Conducting survey activities within the Experimental Hall, including visual checks of equipment and addressing any alarms to ensure all equipment is in a safe and secure state.
- Supporting ongoing experiments in beamlines and laboratories, which involves basic troubleshooting of control software and hardware, scientific equipment, and vacuum systems, as well as assisting in experiment preparation.
- Ensuring that all safety regulations are strictly followed, monitoring compliance, and reporting any issues.
- Providing support to the accelerator operator in the control room.
- Documenting all interventions and developing new troubleshooting protocols for recurring issues.
Non-shift activities:
- For the remaining half of your working hours, you will be part of a beamline or laboratory team, supporting activities based on the needs of the facility and your expertise. These activities may include:
- Assisting beamline staff in the preparation of experiments, including creating 3D CAD designs and producing small parts using 3D printers.
- Assembling and testing instrumentation, including high-precision mechanical components, vacuum systems, and cryogenic systems.
- Performing vacuum-related tasks such as pumping vacuum chambers, preparing bakeouts, and testing systems using helium leak detectors and residual gas analyzers.
- Handling cryogenics-related tasks such as refilling liquid nitrogen dewars and equipment with liquid helium.
