The Natural Hazards and Risk Analysis group of the CASE Department develops and maintains tephra atmospheric transport models and theoretical models for ash aggregation, dynamics of volcanic plumes, gravity currents, and ash resuspension in order to assess impact of volcanic ash fallout on local communities and of volcanic ash clouds on civil aviation.
Key Duties
- Lead the volcanic ash atmospheric impact services area, and develop a long-term strategic vision of the commercialization future of the research area for the aviation sector.
- Execute R&D projects and lead new innovative initiatives.
- Set and execute SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely) targets for the atmospheric impact services line.
- Coordinate a group of 5-10 researchers to develop an operational forecast system for the atmospheric impact of hazardous substances.
- Run and validate atmospheric transport simulations for volcanic ash.
- Lead the commercialization of the CASE atmospheric impact services, and ensure that projects are delivered on time according to the contractual scope.
- Be the main point of contact for customers, and deliver industry and invited talks.
- Provide 24/7 forecast validations and customer service.
- Lead the creation of a spin-off to provide commercial solutions capable to evaluate and manage volcanic hazards across multiple industries.
