PhD student for project “Novel Memory Technologies for High Performance Computing” al BSC


The Heterogeneous Architectures group from the Computer Science Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is offering a full-time PhD student position. The student will work on the collaborative project between BSC and Samsung that analyses the suitability of novel memory technologies for high performance computing memory systems. We strongly encourage the application of candidates who are interested in a close collaboration with industry and contact with cutting edge technology developers.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research group (currently nine PhD students, four PhD researchers, and one professor) with strong connections to industry (including ARM, ST, NVIDIA, Bull, Samsung). Also, the successful candidate will be enrolled in the doctorate program in the Department of Computer Architecture at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain.

Main Responsibilities
  • Characterization of memory behavior of applications
  • Simulation and analysis of novel memory technologies
  • Writing technical papers and dissemination of the project results
Skill Specifications
We seek a highly motivated and academically excellent student with:
  • Strong knowledge of computer architecture
  • Understanding of memory systems and memory technologies (e.g. DRAM) is a plus
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments
  • Computing skills and programming languages (C/C++, Python)
  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative
Qualifications & Experience
  • M.Sc in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Candidates with B.Sc in computer science and outstanding academic record are also encouraged to apply
