The applicant will work as a research engineer in projects related Net Zero Energy Buildings & Comunnities projects and will report to the Head of the Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group.
The research will be embedded in the Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group which main research subject is the Integrated and Systemic approach for Zero Energy Communities, Buildings and Industries. The group’s special focus is on the Mediterranean and other warm weather regions. The vision is to build an applied research group that contributes to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) through energy efficiency measures, production of clean energy, and integration of distributed renewable energy sources (RES). He/she will work embedded in the Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group with the objective to increase research quality, relevance and number of projects in the research line of Net Zero Energy Buildings & Communities. The candidate is expected to collaborate in defining priorities in research topics in the group, propose projects and lead PhD students and First Stage Researcher. The researcher will attend to seminars related to the subject and will have to be updated on the innovations and market trends, together with publishing relevant papers in the field. He/she will also have to collaborate in preparing proposals for submission to national and European R&D funding programs, and in the search for partners such as companies, universities and research centres for project development.
We are looking for excellent and highly motivated candidates with a PhD degree in Building Physics Science, Mechanical, Architectural or Environmental engineering with experience in built environment and energy systems in buildings and/or cities. Alternatively, a MSc degree with more than five years of experience in the R&D departments in industry are invited to apply. Knowledge in heat and mass transfer phenomena, renewable energy technologies and experience in computational energy systems simulation tools is essential. Advanced knowledge of TRNSYS is valuable. We are looking for a methodical and rigorous person with a scientific spirit and results oriented. Teamwork and communication and management skills will also be a requirement, together with independent and well-structured working style. The candidate should also have experience in EU and/or international research projects. Mastery of English on all levels will be essential. Knowledge of other languages will be desirable.
We offer the chance to become part of an exciting project currently in a consolidation phase, with international recognition and projection, developing cross-cutting projects in science and technology, oriented towards excellence. The initial gross salary will be between 30.000 and 35.000 €/year depending of the evaluation of CV’s applicant and personal interview. Yearly evaluation of competences will be done in the framework of a five-year tenure track contract together with a revision of the salary.
